Get Ready to Play Roman Revelry

Do you enjoy the thrill of wheeling and dealing in the ancient world? Are you looking for a game that will transport you to another time and place? If so, Roman Revelry may be just the game for you!

Created by designer Sean Brown, Roman Revelry is a two- to four-player game that takes about an hour to play. In it, players are competing to be the most successful merchant in ancient Rome. They do this by buying and selling goods, bidding on contracts, and constructing buildings.

The game begins with each player selecting a color and taking the corresponding player board, six worker meeples of that color, and ten gold pieces. The player boards have five districts on them, each with a different type of good (fruit, grain, meat, fish, or wine), as well as spaces for a warehouse and an office. The player boards also have bonuses for reaching five (or six) completed districts.

The gameboard has twelve spaces in the center—six for each player. These spaces are where players will place their workers during the game. The board also has three tracks (one for each type of good), each of which has eight spaces: four for buying goods and four for selling goods. There are also two tracks on either side of the main board (for bonuses), as well as spaces near the edges (for victory points).

The first step in the game is to set up the market. This is done by placing one good token of each type on the corresponding track on the gameboard. Then, players draw three contracts from the contract deck and place them face up next to the board. Finally, players set aside any money they don't want to spend during the game (it can be used later).

On a player's turn, they do three things: take one action, resolve one contract, and draw one card. To take an action, a player can either move one of their workers from their player board to a space on one of the three tracks or take all their workers off one track and put them on another track. When moving workers around, it's important to remember that only one worker can be in any given space at any time; if there are already workers in a space, then no more workers can enter that space until at least one of them leaves (either voluntarily or because they ran out of moves).

When resolving contracts, a player simply does what is written on the contract. For example, if a contract says "buy two fish at market price" then the player would take two fish tokens from the supply and place them next to their player board. Contracts can be resolved in any order; it's not necessary to wait until all three are available before starting to resolve them.

Finally, when drawing cards, a player draws one card per worker they have on any track (including ones not currently active). The cards come in four different colors: blue (valued at 1), green (valued at 2), yellow (valued at 3), and red (valued at 4). When drawing cards, always look for higher valued cards first; if there are no higher valued cards then draw lower valued cards instead. After drawing cards for their current turn, players should always end up with exactly six cards in hand (unless they finished their turn with fewer than six cards). Cards can be kept or discarded as desired; however, discarding always costs one gold piece per card discarded. At any point during their turn (except when resolving contracts), players can spend gold pieces to discard unwanted cards from their hand and replace them with new ones from the deck. This is particularly useful early in the game when there aren't many high-value cards available yet.

The goal of Roman Revelry is to earn victory points by completing districts on your player board as well as through bonus tiles awarded for having certain combinations of goods adjacent to each other on your board. The first player to earn fifteen victory points wins!

The Romans were a passionate people, and few things brought them more joy than a good celebration. From religious festivals to grandiose public ceremonies, the Romans knew how to throw a party. Here are some of the most notable examples of Roman revelry.

In ancient Rome, religion was an important part of everyday life. Each month, the calendar was filled with religious festivals, many of which involved elaborate processions and celebrations. One of the most popular festivals was the Lupercalia, a celebration held in honor of the god Lupercus. During this festival, participants would dress up in animal skins and run through the streets, striking people with goat skins for good luck.

Public ceremonies were also major events in Roman society. The most famous of these ceremonies was the Triumph, a parade held in honor of a victorious general. The Triumph featured lavish displays of wealth and power, as well as entertainers and animals from all over the empire. It was a spectacle that everyone in Rome would watch with great excitement.

Of course, no discussion of Roman revelry would be complete without mentioning gladiatorial games. These bloody spectacles were one of the favorite forms of entertainment for the Roman public. Gladiatorial games could be quite extravagant, featuring mock battles between large groups of combatants or even sea creatures like whales and sharks. Needless to say, they were not for the faint of heart!

The Romans were masters at throwing parties and celebrating in style. If you're looking to experience some true Roman revelry, there's no better place to start than Rome itself!
